Has anybody taken the MENSA test and qualified…or not?
I am wanting to take the American MENSA test. I have a learning disability though, where my brain doesn’t transfer information from book/mind to paper well at all. I have a genius IQ, but testing makes me look like a failing idiot! (Just ask my high school teachers before they figured out the problem, ha ha!) I couldn’t take notes in class well or anything like that.
However, I’ve been reading up on MENSA and the benefits of being a member. I just want to try and see what happens. Anybody been through this process? Any tips?
I didn’t take their test (it’s crap) but I sent in my information when I was 14 and was offered membership. I didn’t accept because I’m against the notion of high IQ societies, and in my youthful mind I thought the best method of protest was to turn them down.
You can get a psychologist to administer a test for a fee and it shouldn’t have too much writing. However, transferring information from mind to paper is an indicator of intelligence.
I doubt you’ll find an accepting community in MENSA if you have a learning disability. They are desperate for friends, but above all they want to feel superior to the population and your disability will shatter that image. So, unless you can pull out a 140+ on an IQ test, or get in the 99th percentile on an LSAT/SAT, I would forget about the benefits of being a member.
If you still want to try take a professionally administered IQ test through a psychologist.
